TOMORROW: DEI Committee Hosts Disabilities Awareness Training Workshop

On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the DEI Committee will be conducting a Disabilities Awareness Training Workshop.

Our Guest Speaker is Keith Williams, a King’s alum who is Manager of the OVR Grant and Advocacy for My Center for Independent Living (MyCIL), a non-profit organization serving people with disabilities in northeast Pennsylvania, where he’s been employed since 1987 and runs the ABLE Project. His responsibilities include overseeing a grant from the PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, advocating for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, promoting increased opportunity to employment and home & community-based services, and educating the community about contemporary disability issues. He guest lectures at regional colleges, universities, and civic organizations to promote the removal of architectural, attitudinal, and communication barriers facing people with disabilities. Keith chairs the Lackawanna County Disability Action Committee and serves on statewide advisory groups. He attended the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 and visited the White House again in 2015 for the 25th anniversary, where he met President Obama and Vice President Biden. While at Kings, he hosted a weekly show on WRKC-FM every Thursday from 4 PM to 7 PM. He is a resident of Clarks Green and served on Borough Council for twelve years. Keith has a master’s degree in human resources administration from the University of Scranton. He was born with Arthrogryposis, a neuromuscular disability.

The title of his talk is, “How Do You Sleep in That Thing?” The event will be held in both the Snyder and Walsh rooms on the 3rd floor of the Campus Center.

Please note: It is open to all faculty, staff, and students. Participants who attend both the talk and workshop will receive a Certificate of Completion (training certificate) at the end of the session from Keith’s organization.
