King’s College will host the 2025 Barbara Sabol Lecture, “Narrow Pathways: Gender, Sexuality, and Arab American Asylum Seekers in the United States,” presented by anthropology and sexuality studies scholar Rhoda Kanaaneh, Ph.D. The event will take place Wednesday, November 5, at 7 p.m. in the Burke Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

The annual Sabol Lecture is co-sponsored by the Peace and Justice Center, the International Relations and Strategy Program, the Department of English, and the Women’s Studies Program. This year’s presentation aims to foster dialogue on human rights, gender, and justice for asylum seekers.

Dr. Kanaaneh has taught at NYU, Columbia, Fordham, and American University, and has held fellowships at Harvard and the European University Institute. Her most recent book, The Right Kind of Suffering: Gender, Sexuality, and Arab Asylum Seekers in America, received the 2024 Evelyn Shakir Book Award.

The Barbara Sabol Memorial Lecture Series honors a founding member of the Peace and Justice Center and promotes awareness of peace and social issues by bringing leading voices to the local community.
