SASA Formal Shines with Culture, Community, and Celebration

On Feb 6, South Asian Student Association hosted a formal event under Multicultural Student Programs. It used to be hosted in November as Diwali, the celebration of light, that presents the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. A year ago, it was moved to February and transformed into a formal evening event.

The SASA Formal brought people together regardless of background and it was meaningful to share South Asian culture with the multicultural office and the wide community of King’s. The event feature catered food, henna, music, dancing, and traditional attire. The event created a space where everyone could learn and feel welcome.

“The overall experience at the SASA Formal was truly amazing,” said Riya Patel, a physician assistant student. “From coordinating event logistics, choreographing dances, organizing henna station, catering, and connecting with students throughout the night, it was an experience I genuinely enjoyed. “I would absolutely recommend the event to other students, because it’s a fun and welcoming event where people can celebrate culture and meet new people.”
