On Feb 27, HALE Center and King’s community celebrated the independence of the Dominican Republic and honor the history, resilience, and vibrant culture of our Dominican community campus.
The La Raza Association and the HALE Center welcomed everyone to join the celebration at the Sheehy Farmer Campus Center. The event featured significant places tied to the culture, like the Loteka lottery and the Colmado corner stores that you can find all over Dominic Republic. Sometimes they give customers the option of getting any product and paying for it later, which they call ‘fiao’ meaning ‘borrow’ in Dominican slang.
Also, a Dominican hair salon is a unique experience for people. It’s a place where a person not only can get their hair done but also relax, eat, and have a cup of coffee while enjoying jokes and conversations with other customers. Coffee is a big part of Dominican Republic culture because it offers the perfect opportunity to spend time with family, friends and neighbors.
The celebration gave the King’s community a chance to learn about DR culture and the event honored the history by sharing the significance of Dominican Republic tradition and culture.
